Learner experience case study

Block 2, Weeks 13 & 14, Activity 3:

The basis of the case study is set out on the H800 website but I thought I would take the opportunity to dissect a few important points from what is said. The study is essentially looking at how students use technology in their studies and what insights can be gained of how student’s experience technology -enhanced learning.

The basic message is that students will use technology they are comfortable with. Following Richardson (2005), students conceptions of learning influence their approaches to study. It is contextual factors which influence their perceptions and the ultimate impact of all this is on the learning outcomes.

The key themes emerging from the study are:

1. Utility and ease of use

2. Relevance of tools to the work context

3. ICT introduces practical element to study that is valued by students.

4. Online study methods have to support feelings of control and progress.

5. ICT usage helps connect study to application in practice

6. The work context influences attitudes to ICT.
